Ireland and Scotland start their World Cup experience in Yokohama on Sunday in game that could decide who finishes high in Pool A, even.
Because beating New Zealand last November, joe Schmidt’s Ireland facet have endured a rotten run, although despite some performances they input the World Cup since the world’s number one ranked side.
The men in green recovered their confidence using victories over Wales, which saw the return of a couple of important guys reigning World Player of the Year Johnny Sexton after being humiliated in Twickenham by England.
But before the battle, Schmidt has been made to shuffle his pack injuries to powerful backs Robbie Henshaw, Rob Kearney and Keith Earls — all of whom boast a wealth of experience. Andew Conway and the fascinating Jordan Larmour will now get their chance to shine on the biggest stage in rugby.
Gregor Townsend has really gone for his attempted and tested on the whole, but the midfield see’s Duncan Taylor and Sam Johnson start together for the second time. Much of the success of Scotland will hinge on Finn Russell, who was majestic in the epic comeback at Twickenham’s performances — anybody cans trouble, he could fire.
After missing the remainder of the contest and exiting the corresponding Six Nations fixture, Stuart Hogg is appointed at full-back at a rear three which contains two British infantry in Tommy Seymour and Sean Maitland.
Conditions seem set to be humid and wet at Yokohama and it’s going to be intriguing to observe how this is handled by either side with such styles.
My bet for this particular match centers around Conor Murra,y one of the world, with a good hit rate against the Scots. Close to the line there are not many better variety nines at getting low and forcing to score.
Given his scoring record and also the conditions that are expected, I like Murray’s sniping ability to score around the fringes and 5/1 anytime appears slightly too large when taking his record into account. ??
